A MIDIAN CITY NOTECARD
"A Brief Guide to Cloning"
August 2009
---------------------------
A BRIEF GUIDE TO CLONING
Cloning is going to be the only way for one (humans/hybrids) to
come back from death. The following are the guidelines.
a) Though not advertised, cloning is a dangerous and unstable
procedure. Cloning is not desirable and is not a way to
immortality. Cloning does not remove the fear of death, as there
are no gurantees that a clone or it's recorded memories will be
viable.
b) You cannot regain memories of your death, no seances or
merging of spirits, it's against the rules.
c) Your memories can be recorded and put into your clone, but
memories after the recording are lost forever. ANYTHING RPed
after the memory recording is LOST to your character ... no
getting it back. If an individual has enough money, they can go
in to have their memories updated from time to time or if a
signifigant event has taken place in one's life. The updated
memory would be the new starting point if memories were ever to
be restored to a clone.
d) We need a DNA sample. We ask that the person roleplay
bringing in their DNA sample so it can be properly stored or a
friend brings in a DNA sample after your death.
e) Cloning makes you identical, it will not turn you into
another species. You cannot go from human to hybrid, or even
change your eye color with cloning.
f) Clones do to not regain any enhancements they might have, be
it cybernetic arm or breast implants.
g) Cloning is not a good thing, there are side effects,
degradation, some memory loss, it's not a perfect science and
not a perfect escape from death.
h) The recorded memories can only be put in an indentical clone.
The recorded memories cannot be deciphered.
i) Ashagi (or traitors inside Ashagi) will clone anyone despite
faction or standing towards Ashagi Faction.
j) Only Ashagi Laboratories does cloning in Midian City and
Leviathan.
k) It is ICly illegal to have more than one copy of oneself
activated at a time. Those discovered as having multiple copies
of oneself will be hunted and destroyed by the UAC.
l) An individual who is restored with a clone must wait a period
of 3 Real Life weeks for the process to complete.
m) When a person wishes to be restored as a clone an admin must
be notified prior to starting the cloning.
n) A person is HIGHLY encouraged to pick one of the following as
a negative effect after being cloned:
- genetic defects, manifested as a physical or mental problem
- partial memory loss
- full memory loss
- corrupted/false memories
---------------------
This notecard is to enlighten you on the wonderful world of
cloning in Midian City and Leviathan. The following guidelines
must be read and to agreed to before any cloning can be done. An
admin must be notified prior to starting the cloning process.
There are two ways you can play a clone; with memories or
without. And of course with that there are a number of problems:
- Cloning is a complicated process. The clones have a small
chance of dying when they are made from the tank. Every time a
person cloned, the person's genetic code breaks down and is
slowly reduced to completely useless. On top of that, it takes
vast amounts of space on a computer and tons of strain to
transfer memory and consciousness. Please keep these in mind
when doing the RP: CLONES ARE NOT PERFECT.
- You cannot, and I will repeat the message in block capitals to
emphasize the point, CANNOT regain memories of your death
through any means through cloning. There is no way to magically
come up with a solution to get all of your memories back. It
doesn't matter the slightest bit if you want revenge on whoever
killed you. To do so is one of the worst examples of bad RP and
puts us all in a bad light. Furthermore, it causes a lot of
bother for the person that killed you. That being said ...
- Your memories can be stored up to a certain point, if you are
preparing for a death in some way. After they have been copied
they stay like that. The saved copies do not gain memories
between the point where they are stored and the point you are
cloned ... unless one returns for a new memory recording, or
"Mind Backup". These memories cannot be read by anyone and can
only go into an identical clone. The slightest change in brain
physiology makes the recorded memories illegible.
- As mentioned, an individual may return for an updated memory
scan or "Mind Backup" after the initial store, but must RP this
out. This will update their individual save memories since the
initial save. Its is costly for one to constantly updated their
memories and would only likely be done to ensure that a
signifigant life event was recorded.
- No, we will not change the RP's past to give you another
chance. If you die and forget to save your memories and are
cloned back you will have absolutely ZERO memory of anything
(friends, past RP circumstances ... EVERYTHING). An individual
cloned without memory must relearn not only day to day living
and survival, but also would likely have a complete different
personality. Its almost not even worth the cost or effort in
most cases to be restored as a clone when memories have not been
stored in advanced ... one would essentially be restored as an
infant in an adult's body.
- Clones are copies, they have completely identical DNA to the
previous body where the sample came from, there is no way in
hell it will alter itself without us doing so. You were ill when
you were in body #1? You're ill in body #2. You can't suddenly
sprout a tail and ears because you wanted to play a neko when
your last character was a run-of-the-mill human. You want to
change? We suggest that you make arrangements beforehand then.
- Clones don't appear out of thin air. A DNA sample of some form
is needed before one can be created. To even start with the
process we need you to give us a sample somehow before your
death ... or a friend would need to bring in a sample after your
death (but if this is the case then it is likely there were no
memories stored in advance). No, we will not change the RP's
past to give you another chance if you die and forget to save
your memories.
- Vampires are undead, and their DNA is not going to be able to
replicate as it has ceased to function normally. This means no
vamp clones.
- Cloning does not apply to replicants, cyborgs or robots.
- Once again A CLONE WITH NO MEMORIES STORED IN ADVANCED WILL
NOT REMEMBER ANYONE OR ANYTHING. Think an infant in an adult's
body or neanderthal. One would not react as their old self to
people they knew prior to being cloned.
- Clones do to not regain any enhancements they might have, be
it cybernetic arm, digital memories or breast implants.
- Cloning is not a perfect technology. It is rare that a clone
comes back perfectly restored as before with no genetic or
memory issues. Therefore, it is HIGHLY encouraged that a person
pick one of the following negative effects after being cloned:
- genetic defects, manifested as a physical or mental problem
- partial memory loss
- full memory loss
- corrupted/false memories
- An individual who is restored as a clone must wait a period of
3 Real Life weeks for the process to complete and MUST notify an
admin prior to starting the process.
Hopefully this gives you some idea of how to play a clone, and
how not to. These rules have been put in place to prevent bad an
unfair RP that has occurred as a result of cloning a character,
but hopefully it won't put you off of RP'ing with us.
