TRAVEL, IMPORTS and SMUGGLING

Midian City is cut off from the “civilized” society of the mainland. After the war it was considered a radioactive wasteland and subsequently abandoned. Society’s outcasts, thugs, criminals and freaks eventually began to find their way to Midian City, seeking refuge in it. For the majority of its inhabitants Midian City was to be their final destination. Few and far between ever escape. The inhabitants of Midian City, in the eyes of the UAC and MPD, are viewed as a sort of “virus”, something to be contained.

Only means of public transport in and out of Midian City is the subway leading to Leviathan. When exiting in Leviathan, a UAC marine will check passengers for weapons, contrabands, identification papers etc.

With this in mind, there are a few exceptions that should be noted.

Oceanic Imports
As Midian City began to fester and boil into a cesspool of a society of its own, certain corporations began to take note of the possible business opportunity it presented.
Oceanic Imports is currently the ONLY UAC licensed importer. It brings in three Maru-class freighters (Oceanic Progress, Oceanic Endeavour & Oceanic Enterprise) weekly which supply Midian City with bulk-food shipments, medical supplies and other bulk items (ammo, authorized weapons) required to keep things (barely) functional. Additionally, there are some passenger berths aboard each Maru. Local rumor has it that if one contacts the Midian Mercenary Guild, other more questionable high end items can be discreetly obtained, though most certainly at an exceptionally high cost. Rumor also alleges that if one pays the right price, they could possibly be smuggled covertly aboard an Oceanic Maru. It might take longer when conducting “business” with Oceanic Imports, as you are operating on their existing schedule, but the risk of being caught is minimized, given their established licensed shipping routes. However, their high price is out of the rage of most individuals, though not necessarily for most factions.


The Haulers
Whenever there is a demand it isn’t long before enterprising individuals come to meet it. Such is the case with the Haulers. Not much is officially known about the Haulers though local street rumor has it that they have a fair number of mainland black-market connections and a fast speed boat that is out and about most nights. They say the Haulers can get you there now and at an affordable price. However, they are not UAC licensed. All of their mainland activity is considered illegal and as such, the risk is high.

The Corporations
Official UAC licensed and authorized travel is granted to the major corporations. This includes: Employees of Ashagi, Blackstar/Oceanic, Globosec (MPD). The mayor's office is included in this as well, though not a corporation. It’s not likely that any smuggling of goods would ever take place through these reputable organizations, though if one were to cozy up to the right person, perhaps they might find transportation to the mainland.
